The Commandant of the Royal Jordanian National Defense College delivered a lecture on Monday at the University of Jordan titled “Jordanian National Security in Light of Contemporary Challenges”, as part of the Military Sciences course, in the presence of the Director of Military Education, Training and Culture, the Head of the University Education Department, and the Dean of Student Affairs at the university.

The Commandant addressed the concept of national security as a state of comprehensive stability that safeguards state sovereignty, security of society and citizens, while ensuring sustainable development. He explained that this is achieved through an integrated system of policies and measures aimed at protecting the state from internal and external threats and preserving its independence and institutions.

He emphasized that balancing security and freedom constitutes the cornerstone of state stability, noting that security protects freedom, while responsible freedom reinforces security— a principle guaranteed by the Jordanian Constitution.

The Commandant further highlighted that empowering youth intellectually and cognitively is a security and strategic necessity, as they represent a key component of the national security system and the first line of defense when awareness and a sense of belonging are present. He pointed to their role in strengthening security through adherence to the rule of law, positive national belonging, community participation, volunteer work, responsible use of social media, and confronting extremist ideology.

The lecture concluded with an extensive discussion during which the speaker answered students’ questions and inquiries.
